In a 35-year career as a writer,
I have written music journalism for NME, documentaries for BBC Radio 3 and Radio 4, and the storyline of an opera that received its London premiere at the BBC Proms.

My first novel won the Sinclair Prize for Fiction, judged by a panel of former Booker judges including Fay Weldon and Joanna Lumley. Recently I have been collaborating with a group of like-minded writers – Adrian Lancini, John Lanyon and Rob Stepney – on a live show which we have performed with musician Shannon Harris and broadcaster Kathy Clugston.

I design and produce hand-made books, and welcome commissions.

Some of my artwork has also been turned into cards and other products by Vif images.

I used to think that if I had nine lives, in one of them I'd be a bookbinder
